The creation of
a three–dimensional object with material layer by layer is 3D printing. This is
different from traditional manufacturing, where the process included a
subtractive approach, which included a process of forging, grinding, molding,
cutting, welding, gluing, bending, and assembling. On the other hand, 3D printing
uses an additive approach with a snap
maker.
When we focus
our attention on the level of consumer additive manufacturing, we find that
there are majorly two 3D printing techniques. The techniques include
ü Fused Deposition Modeling
ü Stereolithography
These two techniques process objects by adding materials, layer by layer, to make a model. But Stereolithography is known to use a computer-controlled motion laser beam programmed using CAD / CAM software to harden resin exposed to the beam to create a desired three–dimensional shape. Fused Deposition modeling uses a thermoplastic filament, which is therefore heated to its melting point through a heated nozzle, then extruded layer by layer to come up with a three–dimensional object.
